ARRESTED: Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested
in an aggravated robbery of an elderly female that occurred on Thursday, April
3, 2025, at around 3:00 pm at the 11400 block of Harwin, in Houston, Texas.
The suspect, Benny Simmons, 18, is charged with aggravated robbery (elderly) in the 177th State District Court. Benny Simmons booking photo is attached in this release.
According to the complainant (81-year-old female), she was at her apartment complex when she was approached by an unknown male, who forcibly grabbed her chain from her neck, causing her to fall backwards and hitting her head on the ground. The suspect then took the complainants car keys, got into her vehicle, and attempted to drive away. The suspect then struck several parked vehicles in the parking lot, exited the complainant’s vehicle, and fled the location on foot.
Houston Police Officers from the Westside Patrol Station arrived at the scene and met with the complainant and numerous witnesses. Officers were provided a cell phone that was possibly left by the suspect at the scene.
Houston Police Robbery Division Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and establish Benny Simmons (18) as the suspect in the case. Charges of aggravated robbery (elderly) were then filed on Simmons through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Houston Police Officers from the Westside Divisional Gang Unit then served the aggravated robbery warrant at the suspects residence. While attempting to take Simmons into custody, he fled from officers on foot, but was captured a short distance away. Benny Simmons was then booked into the Harris County Jail on the aggravated robbery warrant and additional charges of evading arrest were filed.
