Suspect Identified and Charged in Marketplace Aggravated Robbery

 

ARRESTED: Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon stemming from an aggravated robbery that occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at around 6:00 pm at a public park, located at the 200 block of Mississippi, in Houston, Texas.

The suspect, Jaqoran S. Powell, 20, is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the 262nd State District Court. Jaqoran Powell’s booking photo is attached to this release.

According to the complainant, he had arranged to meet with an unknown male after placing an ad selling a piece of jewelry on an online selling app. The complainant stated that the potential buyer agreed to meet at a public park in East Houston. The complainant arrived at the location and observed the buyer’s vehicle, already at the location. The complainant stated that he approached the vehicle and observed a male in the driver’s seat along with an unknown male in the rear seat. The complaint stated that the male in the back seat immediately pointed a handgun at him while demanding the piece of jewelry. The driver in the front seat then grabbed the piece of jewelry as the suspect in the backseat exited the vehicle and searched the complainant’s vehicle for additional property. Both suspects then got back into their vehicle and fled the location. Prior to fleeing, the complainant was able to get the license plate of the suspect vehicle.

On April 1, 2025, Houston Police Officer’s with the Southeast Patrol Division were on routine patrol and observed the vehicle that was used the aggravated robbery. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Jaqoran S. Powell, 20, who was also in possession of a loaded stolen firearm along with the complainant’s stolen property. Jaqoran Powell was then placed into custody and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and booked into the Harris County Jail.   

A Houston Police Robbery Detective conducted a follow up investigation and subsequently charged Jaqoran S. Powell, 20, with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon after he was identified by the complainant in the robbery.
